This year’s annual Comic Con has come and gone, but we’ve learned quite a lot about the upcoming season of The 100.

Just like last year, The 100 is coming back on The CW during it’s midseason lineup in January. This will be the show’s fourth season and the episode count will range between thirteen to sixteen.

Comic Con confirmed that a few fan favorites would be coming back for Season Four. Roan will be returning in a more permanent role, with Zach McGowan now being a series regular on the show.

Indra (played by Adina Porter) will also be back, her role will be start off in the first few minutes of the season premiere. Octavia will start her journey to find Indra immediately after she leaves the tower in Polis.

Luna was recently introduced in Season Three and she will also make her return during the upcoming season. Under what capacity and all the how and why details won’t be revealed for the time being because it would spoil too much about the season.

Character Arcs

Murphy’s relationship with Emori will continue to progress, with Richard Harmon saying that for the first time he could actually see a happy ending for Murphy. But that doesn’t mean that we should expect Murphy to get along with the other Sky People at the moment.

Chris Larkin confirmed that the relationship between Monty and Harper is not over and will have it’s own arc in Season Four. “I don’t think he’s a one-night-stand kinda guy. I think he’s gonna wanna develop that relationship as much as possible.”

Octavia will take a dark turn after killing Pike. Marie Avgeropoulos said “She’s going to go ahead and do what she does best, which is killing people.” She added that Octavia will “become an assassin with a group you’re very familiar with.”

Clarke will struggle over whether or not she should clue people in on the impending apocalypse. It’s unclear who will be in the know besides Bellamy and Raven, with Lindsey Morgan saying that “Raven wants everyone to know because she believes in sort of crowdsourcing the answer.”

On the topic of Raven, our favorite mechanic will have a bit of an upgrade after the ALIE take over in Season Three. She will be focused on trying to save the world but that doesn’t mean that she won’t have a little fun in between. Lindsey Morgan said that Raven will start to wonder how she will spend her last few months on Earth, with Jason Rothenberg adding that ”Raven does deserve some fun.”

Season Three was all about Nightbloods and the search for a Commander. Ontari took over that role for a bit but with her dead it looks like there’s no rush to fill that blank space. There is no Commander (or Chancellor for the Sky People), but that will be addressed very quickly in next season. Grounders will be looking for potential Nightbloods since the Flame still exists. It’s also been confirmed that Lexa will not be coming back to the show.

There was a significant time jump in Season Three but once again things are going to be a little different this time around. Season Four will pick up immediately where it left off, with Clarke telling Bellamy that they haven’t saved everyone yet and Octavia leaving the group after killing Pike.

Jason Rothenberg mentioned that the characters will split up but not in the way we were used to. ”There will be a fracturing but we’re gonna pay a lot of attention to who’s on what mission.”

Each season of The 100 was centered on one big bad but that will change according to Jason Rothenberg. The Earth will be the big bad and it will fight back with the growing radiation that no one will be able to survive, even if they were born in space. This new story will be about surviving as opposed to stopping what can’t be stopped.

There will be a problem with the water, the radiation will spread and that’s one of the side effects we will see.

Since the characters can’t stop what’s coming, the focus will be about who deserves to survive. This internal fighting will be a drastic change from the external issues that the main characters have had to deal with so far on the show.

Fun Facts

The 100 panel didn’t only cover what’s to come in the future, the cast also shared some facts that didn’t make it to the screen.

Henry Ian Cusick mentioned that Kane was written as Octavia’s father in the beginning. The idea was eventually scrapped and didn’t make into the show though.

There was also lots of talk about a second ending to Season Three. Apparently the ending we saw could have easily been replaced with another, and now we know why it premiered the way it did. Jason Rothenberg mentioned that Jasper was supposed to kill himself when the City Of Light was destroyed, but that was dark even for him so they kept the original ending instead.

Henry Ian Cusick is not only an actor but a director as well, something that could make it’s way into the next season of The 100. At the panel, it was mentioned that Henry Ian Cusick might direct an episode during Season Four.
